Cycle Carlisle aims to make cycling in Carlisle safe, convenient and popular. We hope to encourage people to use cycling as part of their normal daily transport and turn Carlisle into a progressive cycle-friendly City.

This manifesto has been drawn up by members of "Cycle Carlisle" to record the improvements that we wish to see for cycling in Carlisle. It is designed to reflect the wishes of all who cycle in Carlisle, and especially those who wish to cycle more. Read more

Cycle Carlisle aim to organise events that promote cycling throughout the city. Past events have included mass bike rides and a mini cycle festival in the centre of Carlisle last year. There are also regular rides out into the surrounding countryside as well as various campaigns, meetings and film screenings.

JUNE Social Ride

Once again the 3rd Saturday of the month is approaching and so it is time for our group social ride.  This Saturday (21st June), our ride coincides with the Cumbria Diversity Carnival.  This gives us another opportunity to stand out and promote cycling as an everyday means of transport and so we will take part in the carnival.  The details for the day are as follows:

When:                     21st June (Saturday)

Time:                          11:00

1st Meeting Point:         Carlisle Railway Station (Court Square Entrance)

2nd Meeting Point:     Old Fire Station (Warwick Street) for 11:15.

Message:              “Cycling for a healthier city / Cycling for a cleaner city”

For those who can’t make it this weekend our subsequent ride will take place on 19th July which will revert to your usual circuit of the city centre.

Our next meeting will take place on Zoom at 17:30 on Tuesday 8th July.  An invitation and joining instructions will be sent to all members.

MAY Social Ride

Our MAY group social ride is on Saturday (17th May) starting from Carlisle Railway Stationthis coincides with a special event run by Cumbria Action for Sustainability (CAfS) taking place at Gosling Syke Farm, Houghton and is an opportunity to shape local climate policies. All are invited. Booking is required though, so if you would like to attend, please book via the following link: Events – CAfS.

The event is starting at 9:45, so those of us who would like to attend meet in the usual place at Carlisle Railway Station from 9:00, with the aim of departing at 9:15. We can take a scenic and partially traffic free route via Rickerby Park.

For those who can’t make it next week, our subsequent ride will take place on 21st June to coincide with Carlisle’s diversity carnival. Our next regular meeting will be on 27th May at 5:30, at St. James’ Parish Centre, to which all members are welcome.
